Sapper 300

Corps of Engineers Tercentenary
Sapper 300

Since before the Noman Conquest Engineers have been on the pay-role of the Sovereign, first as ‘Kings’ Engineers’ and later after the introduction of gunpowder, as Engineer Officers of the Board of Ordnance.

‘Ordnance Trains’ of Artillery and Engineers would be assembled to go to war with the Army.

In 1716 the Board of Ordnance authorised a separate establishment for the Artillery, thus leaving The Corps of Engineers as a separate entity.
